Hazard Control in Tunnelling and Underground Engineering (CN37-1516/U; ISSN 2096-5052) is a professional academic journal, governed by the Ministry of Education and sponsored by Shandong University, and distributed both domestically and internationally. The journal was included in CNKI in April 2019, included in EBSCO (USA) in February 2020,and included in DOAJ (Sweden) in February 2024,and included in RCCSE (China) in April 2024, and included in GRP(USA).

 

Section 1 Aim and Scope

The journal aims to support the forefront of international academic research, providing a multidisciplinary and open academic exchange platform for professionals, scholars, and graduate students engaged in tunnelling and underground engineering.

The journal focuses on reporting important research findings in the fields of tunnelling and underground engineering worldwide, including progress, hazard prediction and prevention, safety control, informatization, intellectualization, and interdisciplinary research. It also highlights the application of new technologies, methods, equipment, and techniques in tunnelling and underground engineering, so as to promote the exchange of academic theories and innovative ideas within the field.

 

 

Section 2 Submission Requirement

1. All manuscripts should not have been published or submitted elsewhere.

2. Manuscripts shall be submitted to the journal via:  http://tunnel.sdujournals.com/Journalx_sdydxgczhfz/authorLogOn.action. Authors can scan the QR code of the journal and follow our WeChat Official Account (WeChat ID: sydzhfz), to keep track of the process of their manuscripts.

3. For details of manuscript requirement, please refer to Guidelines for Manuscript and Manuscript Template.

4. Reviewers can log in the 'Expert Review' via  http://tunnel.sdujournals.com/Journalx_sdydxgczhfz/expertLogOn.action.

5. There are no review fees for all manuscripts. 400 RMB per page shall be payable for article processing charges.

6. After publication, authors will receive three copies of the current issue of the journal.

 

 

Section 3 Peer Review

1. Review Process: All manuscripts submitted to the journal will be reviewed by peer experts (double-blind). After submission, the editorial office will conduct a preliminary review of the manuscript. The editorial office will reject the manuscripts which are insufficient in originality, having serious scientific or technical mistakes, lacking valuable information, or not in the scope of the journal. Manuscripts which have passed the preliminary review will be anonymously sent to two or more peer reviewers. Authors must revise the manuscript according to the reviewers' comment and submit the revised version in time. The Editor-in-Chief will conduct the final round of review and the editorial office shall impartially select manuscripts on the basis of academic quality and the review comment.

2. Timing: Generally, the journal provides reviewers' comments within 2 months of submission. The time may be extended accordingly due to special situation of external reviewers. If authors do not receive any notice from the journal within 2 months, they can make alternative arrangements after contacting the editorial office in writing and receiving confirmation. Once a manuscript is accepted, authors cannot request withdrawal or changes in principle. By submitting to the journal, authors are deemed to agree to this term.

3. Editorial Staff Submission: The editorial staff / editors / editorial board members should not be involved in publishing decisions on papers which they have written themselves or have been written by their family members or colleagues. Any such submission should be strictly subject to the journal’s usual editorial process. Peer review should be handled independently from the relevant author/editor and their research groups.

4. Appeal: Authors may make an appeal if they disagree with the comment of the reviewers. Authors need to write an appeal letter (with the manuscript serial number) and send it to tunnel@sdu.edu.cn. Detailed reasons for appealing must be stated, including a comprehensive and reasonable answer to the reviewers’ comment. The appeal letter should also be stamped by the author’s institute. The editorial office will consider whether to change the decision on a case-by-case basis.

5. Correction and Retraction: After publishing, if there appears to be an unintended scientific mistake in the article which would not lead to significant impacts on the results and conclusion, the editorial office will publish corrections in the journal as soon as possible, and detailing the changes made to the original article. If severe scientific errors are found in published articles, or the article is suspected of academic misconduct, such as plagiarism and data falsification, the editorial office will issue a statement to inform readers of the risks, initiate an investigation and announce the final result, or even retract article with a retraction statement if necessary.

 

 

Section 4 Open Access, Copyright and Archive

1. Open Access:Since founded in Jan, 2019, Hazard Control in Tunnelling and Underground Engineering has been an open access journal. All articles since the 1st issue of 2019, once published, shall be immediately and permanently available for readers to read and download free of charge. Permitted third party reuse of the articles published by the journal is defined by the following user license: Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). This license allows reusers to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format. The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as the license terms below are followed: reusers must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. Reusers may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses the use. Reusers may not use the material for commercial purposes. If reusers remix, transform, or build upon the material, they may not distribute the modified material. The authors have right to spread or make use of the article under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 License. 1. Copyright Policy: Authors shall sign the Copyright Transfer Contract and agree to transfer the assignable copyright of the article and the attached abstract, figures, tables, and any content extracted from the article, to Shandong University, the sponsor of Hazard Control in Tunnelling and Underground Engineering, who shall have, but not limited to, the following rights: reproduction, distribution, online dissemination, translation, adaption, compilation, broadcast and exhibition. The rights are exercised by Shandong University Scientific Journals Press, the publisher of the journal, on behalf of Shandong University.

2. Archive: Since 2019, all journal articles have been digitally archived and can be searched and downloaded from this website, which are open access under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 License. The hard and soft copy of each issue of the journal had been kept in the editorial office for archiving. In addition, other relevant materials are also kept by the editorial office, such as supplementary information and forms provided by the authors.

3. Open Science and Data Sharing: On the premise of intellectual property protection, the journal encourages the practice of open science. Authors are encouraged to publish or share their research data whenever appropriate. The data for sharing may include original data, observation records, experimental results, etc. The journal also encourages the sharing of software, code, models, algorithms, protocols, methods and other useful materials. Authors can upload the materials above to an accessible third-party repository and make a proper citation or add a link at the end of the article.
